Create a printed tech zine that critically and creatively engages with the course’s required readings, synthesizing themes, debates, and personal reflections on digital culture. As a post-Internet artifact, the zine will incorporate post-Internet aesthetics.

FINE 257 Video, New Media & the Digital Turn (i.e. Histories of the Digital Now) explores the evolution of digital practices and their profound influence on visual culture and contemporary art from the 1960s to the present. Tracing the histories, aesthetics and politics of digital art, students critically examine the emergence of digital technologies and their roles in transforming artistic practices, modes of production, and integration across media disciplines. Through both chronological and thematic approaches, students engage with theoretical readings, analyze historical and contemporary case studies in art and digital spaces in everyday life, and create studio-based projects that respond to or critique digital and mediated cultures.

All copyrights for student artworks exhibited remain with the individual creators, per the University of Waterloo’s Policy 73 (Intellectual Property Rights). Any exceptions will be explicitly noted with written consent and credits on the individual artwork web pages.
